The Path to Lunacy

I just came back from a quick trip along the Ten Mile River Bike Path which terminates a few blocks from my house. It’s a nice 6-mile round trip that gets me off my ass for about 25 minutes. They have a simple policy there in which bicycle riders are asked to stay to the right while pedestrians keep to the left, although 80% of those walking do not heed that suggestion and simply spread out across the path shoulder-to-shoulder. I am not sure what side you are supposed to be on if you wish to walk your dog while shouting incoherent ramblings to passers-by, as some man was today. “Can you tell me where the virtue is in secular queerdom?” he asked, to everyone and no one. He continued on with; “Is there any virtue there at all?” Some tough questions that will take some equally tough medication to solve.

The Smells of Summer

I am currently working on a project in Hunt Valley Maryland, just north of Baltimore. The office building is located on McCormick Road, named after the McCormick spice company whose facilities line the road for several blocks in all directions. Unlike factories which belch smoke or toxic fumes into the atmosphere, the McCormick plants give off the aroma of spices and seasonings, and the smells vary by day. A few days ago the air was heavy with the aroma of Chinese five-spice; before that, garlic. Or was it onion powder? It is hard to say for sure. A subtle cinnamon scent a few weeks back had an apple-pie-cooling-on-a-windowsill effect. It’s too bad that recent EPA emissions rulings have taken away the smell from most of the larger bakeries. A facility near my house which churns out English Muffins used to give off a wonderful aroma, but no more. I miss it.

Internet and Computer Stuff

Google Earth is the coolest program, ever. Go to earth.google.com and download a copy. It’s free, and very slick.

While puttering around the internet earlier today I stumbled upon the blog of Rosie O’Donnell.. It reads as though it were written by a mildly retarded child.

Holy Bendables! Take a look at what happens when you combine bendy toys, Photoshop, and an amazing amount of talent: Leisuretown. Be sure to read the story Nightmare World while you are there. Another first-rate Photoshop-and-action-figure site is AlienLovesPredator.com. It has some very funny writing and creative design work. Check out the archives, and start from the beginning.
